Yanbu

Overview

Also known simply as Yambo or Yenbo, is a major Red Sea port in the Al Madinah province of western Saudi Arabia. It is approximately 350 kilometers north of Jeddah .The population is 188,430 (2004 census). A large number of the residents are foreign expatriates, mostly from Asia, but there are also large numbers from the Middle East and Europe. Yanbu's history dates back at least 2500 years, when it was a staging point on the spice and incense route from Yemen to Egypt and the Mediterranean region. Yanbu served as a supply and operational base for Arab and British forces fighting the Ottoman Empire during the World War I. It remained a small port town until 1975, when the Saudi government designated it as one of the country's two new industrial centers.

Major Attractions

Yanbu beaches: Unique to the shores of Yanbu features the Red Sea overlooking the magnificent beaches of soft sand and turquoise water. Deep-sea world of exciting and attractive with charming and beautiful variety of marine organisms that live in fish from different shapes and colors are unique presence in the Red Sea. The revival of Water strange addition to the huge coral reefs that give the composition of forms and colors which is attractive for underwater photography seekers.

Sharm Yanbu: The northern city of Yanbu one of the most beautiful coastal areas where it contains many of the resorts, and its centers for diving, yachting and diving and safari.

Al-Suwaiq Village: Also Known as Monday market the famous meeting point of trading caravans and pilgrims from land and sea.

Industrial Yanbu: is the industrial city, established around 1975 with a very modern housing architecture. It houses all the major refineries and petrochemical installations and is still experiencing major growth.

Musmak Maritime Hall: An important milestone directly overlooking the sea equipped to set up events, seminars, conferences and exhibitions in addition to a shaded balcony overlooking the sea and the Marina into the sea, and saw the building, several commemorative events, conferences, meetings and events festivals held in this hall.

Things To Do

Yanbu Diving: The town of Yanbu is the diving off point for over 1,930km of the world's best coral reef. Stretching from Yemen to Jordan you will be able to see 450 species of fish and other exotic wildlife.

Desert Safari: Around the town of Yanbu Sand dunes where many practice Safari in Sharm Yanbu.

Yachting and water sports: The northern city of Yanbu one of the most beautiful coastal areas where it contains many of the resorts, and its centers for diving, yachting and water sports.

Famous Meals
Like other Saudi cities located on sea shore, Siyadiah (fish and brown rice) is the most favorite meal in Yanbu.

What To Buy:
Sea shell and other souvenirs are available in Yanbu.

Best Time to Visit
The best time (months) of the year to visit Yanbu is between November and May and although summer temperatures are considered hot. People visit Yanbu for its beaches to have fun there.

Obviously Muslims and non Muslims all can come to this beach city. Drugs are strictly prohibited and thirdly according to Saudi Law women should always dress modestly.
